Pawia street, lies within the borough of Wojszyce, Wrocław. It is a peaceful quiet oasis. 18 Pawia Street is designed to be a multiple family building and sits in this special borough. The surrounding neighbourhood is comprised mainly of multiple family  and single family buildings
This architecturally diverse neighbourhood, alongside the planning guidance, provided the starting point for the design of the buildings facade. The facade fills a gap between historical buildings pre-dating WWII and current, much more modern neighbours. The building’s scale is in-keeping with the surrounding architecture but at the same time reflecting the historically rich borough of Wojszyce.
It was important to visually split the facade design into smaller sections on 18 Pawia Street. The change of rhythm was achieved and emphasised by using materials with different textures. Smooth render, wood imitating render and brick slips interweaving and enriching the compact buildings facade.
This new building fits architecturally into the surrounding area with its small-town character approach. Elaborate detail in the smaller elements create a well balanced composition within the buildings facade. These smaller elements are then tied together by the repeating rough concrete balconies.
Colours of particular facade elements and materials were differentiated to the rest of the facade. This process allows the building to successfully fit into its smaller scale surroundings. These design details help visually break apart the compact volume of the building. At the base of the building there is an intimate entrance area creating an elegant, accessible and friendly space for residents.
Thanks to the use of well worked out detail a new and unique place on the map in Wroclaw has been created. This special building answers the modern needs and aspirations for the people of this developing city.
